Carmen
Free version of the Bizet opera. UV dance Group. Directed by: Antonio Aparisi Sevilla.
Ciclo Muestras
Carmen, in Latin, means poetry, enchantment, magic formula, all of which are, precisely, qualities of the character of this play.
And what if Carmen didn’t die?
And what if at the end of her life she could remember everything and tell her version of the story?
These questions are the starting point as well as the anchor we’ll use to create this performance.
This woman, who is a typical free gipsy, derives from other famous women from medieval literature, such as “la Preciosa” of Cervantes o “la Esmeralda” of Víctor Hugo, both of which we have previously read. She would become the model of the so-called femme fatale. We’ll also get inspired by all those other Carmen who were judged by history due to their loving approach to their freedom and being owners of their own destiny.
A new moral code, somehow close to the existentialist ethics, is introduced with Carmen.
Thus, with this masterfully drafted feminine figure and by working closely with the university orchestra and its conductor, we begin this exciting project in which the actors of this performance will have to play, at some point, a Carmen.
The cast will be intergenerational using as a base those attendees of the university dancing classes, as we’ll be looking forward to go through different stages of Carmen’s life.
Colloquium every Wednesday with the companies when the function finishes
