Presentation

The Sanitary Parasitology Unit of the Universitat de València’s Faculty of Pharmacy is internationally recognised as a WHO collaborating centre on Fascioliasis and Its Snail Vectors (2011–present) and a FAO‑United Nations Reference Centre for Parasitology (2013–present). In addition, it is part of the following national and international networks: GnosisGIS (Global Network for Geospatial Health Network), the European Community Latin American Network for Research on the Biology and Control of Triatominae (ECLAT) and the Collaborative Network of Research on Tropical Diseases (RICET). It is also an Infectious Diseases CIBER research centre (CIBERINFEC).

The members of this unit have extensive experience in participating and leading research projects on parasitic diseases transmitted by vectors, such as fascioliasis, schistosomiasis, malaria and American trypanosomiasis (Chagas disease), among others. The group’s extensive research trajectory focuses on parasitic diseases of public health interest, especially those with zoonotic and vector transmission.

This group has collaboration agreements with international organisations, has performed assessments in foreign research centres and has participated as an assessor in multiple foreign doctoral thesis committees. In addition, its members have taken part in multiple international scientific committees. The group has an international presence supported by participation in numerous conferences and guest lectures at global, European, Asian and Latin American congresses in the fields of parasitology and tropical medicine. This is further evidenced by annual reports requested by WHO and FAO, as well as speciality reviews requested by international journals and publishers.
