On 27 April 2026, the 1st Conference on the Right to Housing for Older People: Housing, Care and New Housing Alternatives will be held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Valencia.
The first conference of the project, entitled ‘First Conference on the Right to Housing for Older People: Housing, Care and New Housing Alternatives’, focuses on the theme of housing and care. Particularly for older people, though not exclusively, the issue of housing is closely linked to that of care. Older people are often forced to move house in order to receive long-term care, whether formal or informal, within their own family unit or in a residential setting. On other occasions, care is provided in the person’s own home, through partial or continuous support services. In any case, the way in which care is provided takes on fundamental importance, advocating for a rights-based approach, including the right to adequate housing, as well as approaches to deinstitutionalisation and a person-centred approach.
