These conferences, which will take place on the 12th and 13th of July in the Ignasi Vilallogna Hall of the Faculty of Economics at the UV, aim to generate an exchange of experiences relating to the educative initiatives related to sustainability carried out by the Faculty of Economics.
This first edition of the Conferences on Sustainability in the Framework of Higher Education is funded by the Chair of International Finance - Santander Bank and was devised to serve as a stimulus, year after year, for the creation of an open exchange of experiences relating to the educative initiatives concerning sustainability carried out by the Faculty of Economics, which not only deals with the Area of Economics and Business (University of Valencia, University Jaume I, and University of Extremadura), but also the Area of Health Sciences and Medicine (University of Valencia).
Several noteworthy public figures will be in attendance at these conferences, including Pilar Serra Añó (Vice-Chancellor of Sustainability, Cooperation and Healthy Lifestyle) and Begoña Giner Inchausti (Professor of Financial Economics and member of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group, EFRAG), among others.
Over the two days of July 12th and 13th of 2023, the academic community--professors, university investigators, administration personnel, and students--are invited to participate in the scheduled activities. These conferences will not only be attended by professionals in the academic sphere, but also by professionals in the business sector. Moreover, these conferences are open to participation by students, in particular those in the process of presenting graduate or master’s thesis related to the study of sustainability in any of its multiple facets.
The main objective of this annual congress is to serve as a vehicle of reflexion on the importance of incorporating a progressive approach to sustainability in academic programmes, not only in theory lessons, but in practical lessons as well. On the one hand, this invitation for reflexion is fuelled by teacher experience--individuals who are currently designing and implementing strategies for teaching and learning the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in university classrooms. The intention being that students develop an awareness of the necessity to adopt the SDG as standard in sustainable development and gain knowledge about the effects derived from the failure to meet the SDG. On the other hand, as a result of the study of the SDG experienced by students, those presenting a graduate or master’s thesis on sustainability in any of its aspects, but in particular relating to the field of economics, finance, and health sciences, are also called to participate in the conferences and share their experiences.
