Bridging Research & Industry: Advancing Optical Fiber Innovation
February 7, 2025
At Arden, we are committed to providing the best fiber measurement solutions for our customers. To truly leverage the power of technology, we go straight to the source of innovation.
Our Founder & CEO, David Robinson, had a productive discussion last week at Aston University with leading scientists in photonics, Dr. Lucas Tendela from Instituto de Física Rosario, Dr. Xianfeng Chen (Coordinator of IPN-Bio) from Nottingham Trent University, and Dr. Kaiming Zhou from Aston University. Together, they explored the latest breakthroughs in optical fiber technologies and discussed progress on the EU-funded IPN-Bio projects.
By staying engaged with innovative research, we aim to stay informed about next-generation fiber innovations and explore how they could be translated into practical solutions. Our goal is to empower our customers to develop even better optical fibers for a brighter future.
Innovation becomes reality when research meets industry. We are excited about the future ahead!

LFO at the European Night of Researchers 2023
The LFO was present at the European Night of Researchers at the Burjassot-Paterna Campus, at the central act where the Physics School of the University of Valencia participated. With the activity “Look at the sound, listen the light” we showed how mechanical and optical waves coexist and interact with each other in different media (and of course, in optical fibers), the basic principle of acousto-optics and optomechanics. More than 100 people could play with our mini-LIGO, our mini-optical telecom-link and other experiences about diffraction, birefringence, etc.
Many other researchers were there showing their activities related to mathematics, biology, chemistry… great fun and a great opportunity to get our work closer to a general audience.
Our activity was funded by the EU project IPN-Bio (Ref.: H2020-MSCA-RISE-2019-872049).

Dr. Martina Delgado-Pinar was invited to EOSAM 2022, the European Optical Society Annual Meeting, to present the latest advances obtained by the Laboratory of Fiber Optics in the development of devices based on the combined use of Bragg gratings and tapered fibres. Among all the results achieved in the more than twenty years that the group and the researcher have been working on this topic, she highlighted the technique for writing single-mode Bragg gratings in commercial multimode fibres, and the development of biosensors in which the Bragg grating is formed by the proteins themselves imprinted on the surface of tapered fibres.
International stays of LFO researchers in the context of the European Project IPN-Bio
During the months of July to October, LFO researchers visited two of the universities participating in the European IPN-Bio project. Dr. Martina Delgado-Pinar spent July and August at the University of Costa Rica, sharing time with the members of LAFTLA, the group led by Prof. Jaime Cascante.
