This is a short Bio of Jordi Paniagua

Jordi Paniagua is Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Economics II at the University of Valencia (Spain). Jordi holds a master's degree in telecommunications and a Ph.D. in Economics. His academic and applied specialization in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stems from his prior professional experience in multinational corporations as an engineer and in Valencia's public Investment Promotion Agency as chief economist. His policy-focused academic research, published in leading economics and business journals, and consulting efforts have been proven relevant for several development institutions that promote economic development and institutional reform like NATO, the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and UNCITRAL.

Jordi Paniagua received a B.A. and M.Sc. in Telecommunications in 2000 from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He moved to Germany in 2000 to complete his Master’s thesis in the Hochschule für Telekommunikation Leipzig and to develop his engineering career in Lucent Technologies (Bell Labs). In 2006, Jordi became actively involved in policy-making as Valencia’s Investment Promotion Agency research head. At night, Jordi pursued an education in Economics, receiving a B.A. degree from the open university UNED (Spain) in 2008, and then continued with graduate studies at the Catholic University of Valencia. He completed his Ph.D. with an award for the best thesis in Social Science in 2012. He joined the faculty that year in his first full-time academic position with an Excellent Teaching and Research Performance Assessment. He accepted his second academic job at the University of Valencia in 2017. Jordi is also Research Fellow at the University Jaume I of Castellón (Spain) and the University of Barcelona (Spain). Jordi achieved the Spanish official accreditation as Associate Professor (ANECA), and his tenure committee is due in 2021.

Jordi’s research interests are varied and span between international economics and business. His research aims to build applied models of interconnected cross-border flows and estimate policy changes and shocks. Thus far, his main academic contributions gravitate around models of foreign direct investment (FDI), trade, migration, energy, and tourism. Jordi’s articles have found a home in leading field journals in economics and business, including The Journal of Law and Economics, Energy Journal, Journal of Business Research, among others. He serves as Associate Editor in two international journals, PLoS ONE and the Central European Management Journal.
