The REI is composed of 31 research groups located in centres across 12 Autonomous Communities, which pool their experience, skills and knowledge to collaborate on a common and unprecedented objective in the country: advancing in the field of Personalised Medicine for Inflammatory Diseases such as multiple sclerosis, and rheumatic, ophthalmological or allergic conditions. In addition, the REI includes 47 associated clinical groups and 5 affiliated groups, which will contribute their extensive clinical expertise to the network’s activities. Over the years, all participating groups have made a great collective effort to identify and partially validate numerous biomarkers (for diagnosis, prognosis or therapeutic management) and have amassed a large quantity of clinical and biological data, images and highly valuable biological samples. This network of experts will optimally leverage all collective knowledge and materials obtained to streamline the processes of identifying and transferring to clinical practice those biomarkers with the greatest potential to improve the well-being and quality of life of individuals affected by some of the most prevalent conditions in our society.
