Objectives

This research project has as main goal go deep in the knowledge of the key process that define the brain development and the neurological and muscular appearance. Through a multidisciplinary view that combines basic and applied studies, we search for the understanding of the call and molecular mechanisms implied, explore experimental innovative models and progress towards new therapeutic strategies. For this, we will study:

  • Brain development and neuronal progenitors
Study the early development and the cell dynamics in key regions of the human brain and animal models, like the hippocampus, ganglionic eminences, the V-SVZ of the pig and the paralaminar nucleus of the mouse, to understand better the neurogenesis and its therapeutic applications.

  • Cerebral vasculature and cell migration
Characterised three-dimensional the cellular vascular network and its relation with the migration of neural progenitors through advanced techniques in microscopy.
  • Experimental models and regenerative therapies
Develop personalised brain organoids to study diseases like the multiple sclerosis and explore the immunological answer and therapeutic potential of new strategies.
  • Muscular and of movement disease
Characterised clinic, molecular and genetically to patients with muscular dystrophy, distal myopathies, hereditary cerebellar ataxias and other movement disorders to understand the pathogenic mechanisms and progress in specific therapies.
