The main goal of this research project is go deep in the knowledge about the biology of the neural stem cell and the dynamic process of the generation of new neurons (neurogenesis) during the brain development foetal and adult age. From this base, we have extended our approach towards the research of therapeutic innovative strategies for the treatment of neurodegenerative disease, like the multiple sclerosis, and towards the research with regenerative ends.
The research strategic plan of research is articulated in the thematic lines that include from the neurogenesis in the development and adult age, to the cell therapy and the investigation in neurologic disease. This approach includes the study of physiopathology in the myelination, genetic factors underlying in patients with cerebellar ataxias and muscular dystrophy, and the development of regenerative therapies based in cells and genes.
The project also stands out for its strong collaborative component, with stablished alliances with research teams leaders in the clinic and basic areas. This collaborations allow apply the acquired knowledge in specific aspects or concrete pathologies, always with a central theme of the cell and genetics therapy.
