Grupo de Investigación en Síntesis Estereoselectiva de Análogos de Productos Naturales Bioactivos

Descripción

El objetivo fundamental del grupo es fabricar nuevos tipos de moléculas con actividad farmacológica y cuya estructura se apoye en la de productos naturales conocidos, asimismo bioactivos. De los muchos tipos de actividades farmacológicas descritas, la atención del grupo se centra principalmente en las actividades citotóxicas, antiangiogénicas y de inhibición de la telomerasa, por la marcada influencia que exhiben dichas actividades en los procesos de proliferación celular. Ello les confiere potencial interés en la terapéutica anticáncer. Otro tipo de acción farmacológica en la que también se va a investigar es la actividad antimalárica.

El grupo se constituyó hace ya algunos años sobre la línea general de síntesis de productos naturales bioactivos. Uno de sus miembros mantiene colaboración desde hace años con otro grupo de la Universitat Jaume I de Castellón, con el cual tiene proyectos de investigación conjuntos. A su vez, el grupo tiene colaboración con grupos externos para el tema de la realización y determinación de las actividades biológicas de los tipos antes mencionados.

Uno de estos grupos, comandado por los Doctores Isabel Fernández y Fernando Díaz, desarrolla su actividad científica en Madrid en el Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas (CIB), entidad incluida dentro del CSIC. Las temáticas que se están afrontando en la actualidad se refieren a la síntesis estereoselectiva y evaluación biológica de análogos no naturales de dos productos naturales bioactivos, la combretastatina A4 y la colquicina. Ambos muestran un fuerte efecto de inhibición de la proliferación celular, lo que los convierte en productos de aplicación en la terapia anticáncer. El objetivo que se persigue es crear análogos no naturales de dichos compuestos con propiedades farmacológicas mejoradas.

El otro grupo es una unidad dentro de la empresa farmacéutica multinacional GlaxoSmithKlyne y relacionada con el tema de las investigaciones en el campo de la malaria. Nuestro grupo tiene firmado un convenio con dicha empresa que permite la evaluación, tanto in vitro como in vivo, de las propiedades antimaláricas de los compuestos de síntesis. Esto tiene particular importancia ya que las evaluaciones de productos bioactivos sobre animales vivos son particularmente costosas y no son normalmente llevables a cabo en instalaciones académicas.

Síntesis de análogos de compuestos biológicamente activos. Evaluación de las propiedades antiangiogénicas, antimitóticas e inhibidoras de telomerasa.

El objetivo del grupo es fabricar nuevas moléculas con actividad farmacológica y con estructura basada en la de productos naturales bioactivos. Interesan principalmente las actividades citotóxicas, antiangiogénicas y de inhibición de la telomerasa, que confieren interés en la terapéutica anticáncer.
