ALPHYL 3.0
Reference number: PID2024-156274NB. Subproject 2: PID2024-156274NB-22
ALFA-PLAYS (Physical Literacy through Active and Healthy School Environments) is a coordinated research project born from the collaboration between the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and the University of Valencia (UV). Its primary goal is to combat childhood sedentary behavior and promote healthy lifestyles from the early years of primary education.
This project addresses physical literacy as a key element for the holistic development of children, understood not only as physical ability, but also as the motivation, confidence, and knowledge necessary to stay active throughout life.
The ALPHYL Subproject (Active Learning in Physical Literacy in Primary Education) focuses on direct pedagogical intervention within schools. Its goal is to transform the traditional classroom into a dynamic space where movement is a cross-curricular learning tool.
The main lines of action are as follows:
- Methodological innovation: Implementation of "physically active classes" in core subjects (such as mathematics or languages). A movement-centered pedagogy is used to teach curricular content, breaking with the inactivity of conventional theoretical lessons.
- Quality Physical Education: Development of game-based approaches that promote inclusion, fun, and cooperative learning, following the SAAFE principles (Supportive, Active, Autonomous, Fair, and Enjoyable).
- Holistic approach: The intervention not only seeks to improve motor competence, but also to positively impact students' cognitive performance, emotional well-being, and social inclusion.
