Since 5 May, the second fieldwork campaign of 2022 of the project "Carthage and its territory", co-directed by Dr. Iván Fumadó Ortega, Ramón y Cajal Researcher of this Department, and Dr. Hamden Ben Romdhane, of the Institut National du Patrimoine, has been underway in Tunisia.

On this occasion they are accompanied by Professor David Quixal Santos and a group of researchers from the Universitat de València, the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Institut National du Patrimoine de Tunis. The work programme includes the first systematic excavation at the Djebel Mergueb site (Tunis), a 131 m high hill strategically located at a crossroads in the Carthaginian hinterland, which has an ancient quarry and Roman and pre-Roman occupation both at the top and on the slopes.

The project is subsidised by the National R&D Plan of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, by the Palarq Foundation and with the contribution of the Institut National du Patrimoine.
