Professor Aleix Eixea together with Alfred Sanchis del Mupreva publish a new article in the journal Archivo de Prehistoria Levantina about the lithic collection from the Middle Palaeolithic site of Cova Foradada (Oliva, Valencia).

The study has made it possible to establish and characterise the existence of at least three industrial periods: Middle Palaeolithic, Aurignacian and Gravetian.

This site is one of the most important in the Iberian Peninsula. Proof of this is the discovery in 2000 of a jawbone and several Neanderthal cranial fragments. More recently, in 2010, new partial remains of a Neanderthal skeleton were discovered, including the skull, thorax and the bones of one of the arms, found in an anatomical position and deposited in a small cavity in the cave wall, which could correspond to a possible burial site.

New excavation work and study of the materials carried out by our Department and the Mupreva are currently underway.
