Guillem Pérez Jordà and Diego Sabato, together with a team of researchers, have published an article on the introduction of two millets (pearl millet and sorghum) of sub-Saharan origin into the Iberian Peninsula in medieval times (11th-12th century).
The study has confirmed that the term ‘dacsa’, which appears in Christian documentation after the conquest, actually refers to pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) and not to sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) as had been assumed until now.
The research is part of the ERC Advanced Grant MEDAPP project of IH.CSIC
‘The Path of African Millets (Pennisetum glaucum and Sorghum bicolor) to Iberia’ Agronomy 14 (10).
