The Municipal Archaeological Museum of Burriana has established a research agreement with the University of Valencia to resume scientific work on the sites discovered in the PAI Sant Gregori Golf.
The aim is to have the support of infrastructures and specialists from the University, as well as to promote the work of the Museum as a research centre recognised by the Generalitat Valenciana. The study will be carried out in the facilities of the ANTARQBIO laboratory (Laboratory of Anthropology and Biomolecular Archaeology).
In this first phase of the research agreement the work will focus on the study of the prehistoric burials recently discovered in the PAI, which form one of the most impressive necropolis of the Valencian Community for the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age, approximately 3,000 years ago. The research group will be led by Dr Domingo Carlos Salazar García and the director of the Burriana Municipal Museum, José Manuel Melchor. It is planned to carry out a variety of analyses on the human remains found that will reveal, among other things, their biological characteristics, demographic profile, diet and whether or not they are local or not.
According to the councillor for Culture, Jesús Albiol, "this collaboration will mean an important advance in the knowledge of the prehistory of the Valencia region, which will also be reflected in the Burriana Museum. This action is part of the commitment made by Culture, to support the important scientific work on the archaeological sites of the PAI Sant Gregori".
