The researcher Margarita Vadillo and the professor Aleix Eixea of the Department of Prehistory, Archaeology and Ancient History of the University of Valencia, together with professors from the University of Alicante, are leading a study on the bipolar carving on anvil at the Middle Palaeolithic site of Los Aljezares (Aspe, València).

The originality of the work lies in the recognition of this carving technique in Neanderthal contexts and in the development of an experiment that has allowed us to better understand how it is developed.

Another aspect to highlight is that the geological characterisation relates the quality of the raw material and its morphological features to the choice of this carving technique. The work allows us to approach aspects that do not appear in the archaeological record, such as the gestures, postures, etc. of the human groups and helps us to better characterise Neanderthal societies from a cultural point of view.
