Our researchers took part in the 2nd International Conference of the Spanish Scientific Society of Social Psychology.

The  2nd International Conference of the Spanish Scientific Society of Social Psychology and 13th National Conference on Social Psychology is the most important scientific meeting of social psychologists that takes place every two years in Spain. The last edition took place from 20 to 22 October 2016 at the Elche Congress Centre (Alicante), with the participation of researchers from the Research Group on Psychosocial Well-being in Childhood and Adolescence (BIPSIA).

The conference’s programme was very rich, with symposiums, panel discussions and posters, centred on five areas of study:

  • psychosocial intrapersonal processes;
  • interpersonal processes and relationships;
  • group psychology and intergroup relationships;
  • applied social psychologies; and
  • other areas of study within social psychology.

Furthermore, international speakers Gerald L. Clore from the University of Virginia and Juan M. Falomir Pichastor from the University of Geneva gave two lectures.

On the morning of 21 October, our researchers participated in the panel discussion 2. The psychology of intergroup relationships. Sofía Buelga and Jessica Ortega-Barón gave a lecture entitled ‘The influence of the family climate and the peer group on adolescent cyberbullying aggressors.’

On the same day, Sofía Buelga participated in the symposium 8. Psycho-sociology of well-being in childhood and adolescence, where she presented her work ‘Cyberbullying in children and adolescents: an analysis from the ecological model’.

In the second poster session, in the legal psychology section, Buelga and Ortega-Barón presented the instruments developed by BIPSIA and spoke about the psychometric properties of the revised cyberbullying scales (CybVic_R, CybAG_R).

In the same poster session, in the childhood and adolescence social psychology section, Laura Carrascosa and María Jesús Cava presented a poster entitled ‘B-positive: an intervention programme to prevent intimate partner violence and peer violence among adolescents.’ Jessica Ortega-Barón and Sofía Buelga also presented another poster entitled ‘Influence of social microsystems from an ecological perspective on adolescents addicted to social media.’

On Saturday, 22, Laura Carrascosa and María Jesús Cava participated in the panel discussion 19. Social psychology of childhood and adolescence, where they presented their paper ‘Family communication and self-perception in adolescents involved in intimate partner violence.’

In addition to the extensive scientific programme, an interesting social programme was organised with visits to Elche’s most emblematic places, such as the El Palmeral Park or the Basilica of Santa María.
