The analysis and interpretation of the data obtained through the observation constitutes a key stage in qualitative research. Even though it is often identified as a subsequent phase to the fieldwork, it actually starts since the first observation, when the first interpretations begin to be recorded in the field diary. Therefore, the researcher collects daily data and constantly broadens and interprets it throughout the research, so that the analytical activity supports the entire research process. However, once the fieldwork is finished, the stage of intense analysis starts, which implies revising the objectives and research questions and framework, resulting in the elaboration of the final report.
In the video below, firstly, the record of information from the observation via the field diary and its traits is exposed. And, secondly, the analysis and the interpretation of the data is explained, including specifics on some starting premises of the analysis, such as the classification of different types of field notes and analytical levels.
