Presentation

The ScienceFlows Research Group was founded in 2013. From the very beginning, we have participated in postgraduate and doctoral programs at various Spanish and international universities, in research areas revolving around scientific culture, science and technology communication, scientific misinformation, social perception of science, and citizen science.

In 2007, our university formalized an agreement with the CIEMAT's Unit for Scientific Culture Research in Madrid to investigate in the field of Social Studies of Science and Technology. This framework project, which also included researchers from the University of Oviedo, the Institute of Philosophy of the CSIC, the University of the Balearic Islands, the University of Valladolid, and the University of Salamanca, was the seed of the current ScienceFlows group.

ScienceFlows aims to research the discourses on science and technology that disseminate through the public sphere. We analyze the flows of science emerging through different media outlets, social networks, and mobile platforms. Additionally, within this flow framework, all elements of misinformation, rumors, and fake news that spread through the public sphere are examined. We participate in the preparation of technical reports for foundations like FECYT through the Science and Technology Social Perception Surveys and are present at numerous international conferences, such as PSCT, held biennially, and the Spanish Association of Science Communication (AEC2), which holds a national congress every two years.

Currently, the group is funded through national and international public calls, especially European projects (H2020, Horizon Europe, and Erasmus+). We have personnel in training funded by public calls, both Spanish (FPU) and international (Margarita Salas and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions).
