The Supramolecular Chemistry group of the Universitat de València, ICMol, is an interdisciplinary unit whose members contribute different research perspectives ranging from biomedical to environmental chemistry. The Supramol group, coordinated by Professor Enrique García-España, is currently comprised of four associate professors, five doctors, five doctoral students and three Master’s students.
The research activity is organised around the following themes:
- The development of new drugs with anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory or anti-tumour activity.
- The design and study of compounds capable of copying superoxide dismutase and other enzymes involved in molecular oxygen metabolism.
- The synthesis of new receptors capable of interacting selectively with nucleic acids by intercalated binding or by the formation of G-quadruplex structures, a design of contrast agents to obtain images of cases of arteriosclerosis.
- The synthesis of inorganic-organic hybrid materials.
- The design of molecular chemosensors for metal ions and anion of biological or environmental relevance.
