The UBIC research group is registered in the Register of Research Structures of the Universitat de València (REIUV) as part of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Research and Science Policy, and is regulated in Chapter I of the ACGUV48/2013 Regulation.
UBIC works in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of pathologies, both musculoskeletal and neurological. In addition, it also proposes actions from the preventive sphere, both in healthy people, to avoid the subsequent development of pathologies, and in people with pathologies, to carry out secondary prevention and avoid possible comorbidities.
The research group has experience in biomechanical analysis from a clinical point of view, having conducted numerous studies on physical qualities in healthy and pathological populations. Examples of studies carried out by the group include the assessment of balance in different pathological populations and the development of balance intervention programmes. It has also worked on several projects focused on the analysis of joint mobility and human gait using different tools ranging from photogrammetry to different clinical tests that assess the quality of movements. Apart from biomechanics, the group also has experience in physiological assessment, in aspects such as the analysis of energy expenditure, the evaluation of muscle activation in patients with pain or heart-rate variability in patients with Autonomic Nervous System dysfunctions. Nowadays, following the physiological evaluation, in populations with chronic pain, we are working on the analysis of plasma biomarkers of pain (the latest articles published by the members of the group are attached below).
All these methods of analysis are the basis for the definition of subsequent physical interventions to address the ailments of the aforementioned populations, as well as for the measurement of the effect of the different interventions developed.
