Title: Detached eclipsing binary stars - state of the art and new techniques.
Place: Seminar del DAA. Jeroni Muñoz Research Building, fourth floor, in Burjassot.
Day: Friday, september 19, 2025. Time: 12.00.
Abstract:
Detached eclipsing binary stars are our one of our best sources of fundamental data for normal stars. The application of instrumentation and data analysis techniques developed for exoplanet studies has made it possible to make mass and radius measurements that are an order of magnitude more precise that was possible 2 decades ago. I will review the data that are now available, describe new techniques for characterising these stars, and describe the applications of these fundamental data for testing stellar models.
