Copper and iron are essential micronutrients for live organisms because they participate as redox cofactors in a wide variety of vital cellular processes. Our laboratory focuses on studying the mechanisms of transport, distribution and use of these metals, as well as in the regulation of gene expression in response to changes in availability.
This knowledge allows us to develop biotechnological applications in food and agriculture. We will focus primarily on the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model for eukaryotic cell, and plants Arabidopsis thaliana and Oryza sativa (rice).
