The project of the CIAICO programme of the GVA with a duration of 3 years has Javier Álvarez and Carmen Gabaldón as the PIs.
The Generalitat Valenciana, as part of the Programme for Consolidated Research Groups CIAICO/2023 from the Conselleria d'Innovació, Cultura, Universitats i Ocupació of the Generalitat Valenciana, has granted the Research Group in Environmental Engineering (GI2AM) a grant to develop the project BIOWASFIN: Development of a multi-product platform for the co-biorefining of urban and agro-industrial solid waste.
The project, which has a budget of 90,000 euros for three years, has as PIs: Javier Álvarez Hornos and Carmen Gabaldón García.
This project arises from the need to promote research activity considering the challenge posed by the transition to a low-carbon economy. For this reason, the project's goal is to develop a multi-product platform for obtaining compounds of high industrial interest, such as solvents and carboxylic acids, through joint valorisation via fermentation of urban solid and agro-industrial waste.
The research will focus on developing tailored solutions by optimising and integrating each process stage: pre-treatment, saccharification, fermentation, and in-situ recovery for the joint valorisation of these bio-wastes.
