The Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Valencia organises and develops the scientific research, the teaching and any other university activity related with the Chemical Engineering, Environmental Technologies, and Graphic Expression in the Engineering in the University of Valencia.
History
The origins of the Chemical Engineering in the Valencian Country go back to the year 1949 when it was build up the Chair of Technical Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Valencia to impart a subject in the Licentiate in Chemical Sciences. Later modifications of these studies introduced a second subject the year 1957 and a third the year 1972.
The modification of the studies in the year 1973 introduced the speciality of Industrial Chemistry in the second cycle of the Licentiate in Chemical Sciences. The Department of Technical Chemistry assumed the practical totality of these subjects and it experienced a great qualitative and quantitative growth.
The promulgation of Reform University Law (LRU) had a great repercussion on the situation of this Department. First, changing their name for that of Chemical Engineering, more in agreement with the international nomenclature of this area of knowledge. The current Department of Chemical Engineering was created by the Board of Government of the University of Valencia July 7 1986 and it was constituted September 12 1986.
Later on, the creation and starting of Chemical Engineer's grade in the University of Valencia the course 1993-94 gave other strong impulse to a Department that is very consolidated in these moments.
Present
At the present time, the Department Faculty is formed for more than twenty-five stable professors of the areas of Chemical Engineering, Environmental Technologies, and Graphic Expression in the Engineering. They teach at undergraduate studies in Chemistry, Foods Science and Technology, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, and, fundamentally, in Chemical Engineering. Also, the Department organises a doctorate program of Chemical, Process and Environmental Engineering awarded by the Spanish Education Ministry.
The Department research is organised around several research groups whose objective is to develop basic and applied research. Their activity is carried out in different R+D+I projects financed for public and private entities.
Appointment
The Chemical Engineering Department is appointed to the School of Engineering of the University of Valencia.
