On the occasion of the 2016 Informatics Week the OfficialAssociation of Informatics Engineers of the Valencian Country has given the Sapiens Award to the professor José Manuel Claver Iborra in order to recognise his work for the valuation of the profession in informatics.
This annual academic award is called ‘Sapiens’becauseit makes reference to wisdom, knowledge and intelligence. These are precisely the characteristics that the Associationwants to highlight, reward and show to society as elements which are closely linked to Computer Science.
Claver worked in the starting-up of the studies in Informatics Engineering of the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló (UJI), 25 years ago. When this university was created in 1991, the studies in Informatics Engineering and Technical Engineering in Management Informatics were created. Furthermore, Professor Claver, who was a professor in the UniversityofCastilla - LaManchain the UniversityPolytechnicSchoolof Albacete, where he started the studies in Technical Engineering in Informatics in 1985 and where he was the Director of the “DepartmentofElectricalandElectronical Engineering and Computer Architecture”. He joined the Service Committee.
This way, the Higher School of Technology and Experimental Sciences (ESTCE) of the UJI started to be responsible of the area of Computer Architecture and Technology, from where it coordinated the contents of this area and it was in charge of forming the laboratoriesof the area.
Professor Claver has developed his professional career in the UJIfor 16 years, where he has been Secretary, Deputy Director and Director of the ESTCE, and Department Director of Engineering and Computer Science,until2007whenhe joined the Universitat de València. Currently, he istenured professor a theETSE-UV in the Department of Computer Science.
