Crisi. Photon Festival 2013. 3rd International Photojournalism Festival
Though its early signs were seen in Greece, in recent years the deep economic crisis has spread and aggravated all over Western Europe. Weaker economies like those of Greece, Spain and Portugal have fallen prey to greedy banks and ‘fearsome’ markets. Political power is showing its loyalty to economic power, subjugating people to tough cutback schemes -under the austerity euphemism- that violate basic rights like health, education, social services, etc. Faced with the daily tragedy of unemployment, political corruption, eviction and cutbacks, anonymous citizens cannot but put up a fight, socially and in the streets. Photon presents an exhibition with the events and people that hit the headlines in recent years, a portrait of a crisis that has eroded strongly rooted principles and values in society.
The group exhibition includes works by professionals like Álvaro García.
