JOLIN, Jornada Internacional d'Innovació sobre el Llibre Il-lustrat i el Còmic, is a meeting of academic reflection on literature, image and the intersection of both disciplines in the form of the illustrated book, the graphic novel and the comic. As a hybrid textual genre, the illustrated book has seen, year after year, an increase in its public recognition with more than significant sales in national and international markets, something that is beginning to encourage the investigative spirit of academics and research groups not only in the world of philology and the study of literature, but also in other disciplines of knowledge.

At present, the study of comics is in the process of academic consolidation thanks to the holding of international congresses, seminars, conferences, summer courses and also the publication of numerous specialised works, whether in monographic volumes or journals. In fact, the current situation of comics and illustrated books in academia reflects a critical mass almost comparable to that of other traditional disciplines. Thus, some theorists have approached it according to the parameters and research methodologies of art history, for example. Others have approached it from the narrative factor or, even more, from the sociological one, approaching it from a comparative perspective with other communicative and artistic media or analysing its didactic possibilities. We can also add translatology, which takes advantage of the multimodal nature of this medium, queer and gender studies, ecocriticism, or any other intersectional and multidisciplinary academic perspective. Certainly, the possibilities of illustrated literature are diverse and affect all areas of knowledge.

Thus, by breaking the canon of what we have traditionally thought of as text and presenting it as a graphic-visual genre, JOLIN is a pioneering platform for the dissemination of knowledge and multidisciplinary dialogue where different professionals in the creation of illustrated literature can come together and reflect on the illustrated literature of the present, its characteristics and frontiers with borderline genres, and the future of the publishing industry in view of the volatility of the markets and the new forms of dissemination and entertainment.

JOLIN2022 wants to support the celebration, on 17 May, of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, in order to demonstrate that affective, gender and sexual diversity finds in the illustrated literature a good ally and a good substrate from which to make humanity, to make science, to make divulgation and to make activism for a fairer society. lustrada a good ally and a good substrate from which to make humanity, to make science, to make divulgation and to make activism for a fairer society, betting on the transfer of knowledge and the promotion of our language in the construction of political subjects together with their processes of awareness and empowerment. Therefore, we invite you to attend and participate in this free conference that will take place on 18 and 19 May at the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication.
