Doctor Carlos Esplugues Mota, who is professor in Private International Law at the Universitat de València and a member of the project PROMETEO JUSOST – Sustainable Law in a state of global change (CIPROM 2023-64 GVA), participated as the delegate of the Kingdom of Spain in the 83rd session of Working Group ll of the United Nations Commission On International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), which was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The meeting, which took place from 16 to 20 February 2026, made it possible to conclude the work related to the recognition and enforcement of electronic arbitral awards, a matter on which Working Group ll has been working for the last year and a half. This process responds to the need to adapt international instruments of Trade Law to the challenges caused by digitisation and the use of technologies on international arbitration.
The texts produced are expected to be definitively approved by the next meeting of the Commission, to be held in July in New York.
The participation of Professor Esplugues strengthens the presence of Spanish academia within the main international law-making fora concerning International Trade Law, and it corresponds to the objectives of the JUSOST project, aimed at analysing and promoting a sustainable justice in a context of global and technological transformation.
