Professor Dr Silvia Barona Vilar, main researcher of the Justicia sostenible en estado de mudanza global (JUSOST) – CIPROM 64/2023 GVA project, participated as a lecturer last 11 June 2026 in the “Conciliación Privada” course, organised by the Consejo General de Procuradores de España.
During her presentation, professor Barona delivered a lecture called “MASC. Marco legal e implementación en el sistema de Justicia” (MASC. Legal framework and implementation in the justice system), in which she addressed the role of the Medios Adecuados de Solución de Controversias (MASC) in the current process of transformation of the Spanish justice system.
The lecture provided an opportunity to analyse the new regulatory framework promoting the use of these mechanisms, as well as the challenges posed by their effective integration into the ordinary functioning of the judicial system. Particularly, they reflected upon the impact of recent legislative reform aimed at fostering a culture of consensual resolution of conflicts, by promoting more flexible, participatory, and sustainable solutions.
In addition, the intervention emphasised the importance of conciliation, mediation and other mechanisms adapted to the resolution of disputes as complementary tools to jurisdiction, capable of contributing to a more efficient justice system closer to the needs of citizens.
The participation of Silvia Barona in this training activity is part of the research lines developed by the JUSOST project, particularly those linked to the modernisation of justice, the sustainability of the conflict resolution systems, and the search for more accessible and efficient models for the protection of rights.
Through initiatives such as this, the JUSOST project continues to strengthen its presence in leading academic and professional forums, contributing to the legal debate on the challenges that contemporary justice has to face and about the necessary transformations to respond to the demands of today’s society.
