The Faculty of Law of the Universidad de Murcia was chosen to host the 1st International Congress “Relaciones familiares y Derecho de Nacionalidad y Extranjería” on 9 November.

A Congress that gathered some technicians and researchers, in which several interesting issues related to this topic were discussed. Professor Palao’s lecture was titled “Autonomía de la voluntad y Reglamentos de la Unión Europea sobre familia y sucesiones” (Free Will Exercise and UE Regulations on Family and Inheritance.) This was the time to do an exhaustive review of the effect of the autonomist principle in legal management of international litigations related to these matters in order to ease access to justice. In this lecture, Professor Palao emphasized the role of jurisdictional and extrajurisdictional mechanisms, specially the will of both legal parties. All this with the objective to serve the interests of both parties in order to favour the use of justice, guaranteeing legal certainty and predictability and boosting coordination among the European organisms that take care of such issues in an international context that changes.
