On 4 and 5 February 2026, the International congress “Sustainable Justice in Situation of Global Change: where are we and which way are we headed?”, organised as part of the JUSOST – CIPROM 2023-64 (GVA), was hosted at the Faculty of Law of the Universitat de València.
The congress gathered 21 lecturers from prestigious national and international universities and centres. During two intense days, these experts debated about the current challenges of civil justice in Europe and Latin America, as well as the transformation processes that affect judicial systems in situation of global change.
Out of the core subjects debated, the ones to be highlighted are the compared analysis of civil justice in different codes, the influence of European Law in the Spanish civil procedural model, and a round table about the relationship between justice and politics, which lead to an open and plural debate between specialist in various subjects.
Furthermore, the congress devoted special attention to the guardianship of vulnerable people and communities, such as minors, women and consumers, thus reflecting on the progress made and the pending challenges to guarantee effective protection by civil proceedings. The programme was completed with the analysis of the dilemmas surrounding civil proceeding testes and the impact of the digitalization and use of algorithms in judicial decisions. This covered the existing tension between juridical argumentation and the algorithmisation of the justice system.
One of the most valued elements from the congress was how intergenerational and interdisciplinary the debates were, as well as the interaction between Law academics and professionals. This included lawyers, senior judges and the direct participation of the Judicial Documentation Centre (CENDOJ) director from the General Council of the Judiciary, whose appearance contributed to enriching the reflections from the debate and to obtaining a high satisfaction rate from the attendees.
This congress consolidates the JUSOST project as a reference space for critical analysis and proposals for the contemporary civil justice system, reaffirming its commitment to creating justice models that are more sustainable, inclusive and adapted to the challenges of the 21st century.
