Professor Dr Silvia Barona Vilar, full professor of Procedural Law at the Universitat de València, and main researcher of the Justicia sostenible en estado de mudanza global (JUSOST) – CIPROM 64/2023 GVA project, participated last 10 June 2026 in the International Micro-credential “Inteligencia Artificial y protección del consumidor. Una revisión desde el Derecho Europeo”, organised by the Autonomous University of Chile as part of the academic activities of the AI Jean Monnet Module and European Private Law.

This international training initiative, developed from April to June 2026, brought together specialists of different Spanish and Chilean universities to analyse the challenges that artificial intelligence creates in the field of consumers’ protection, addressing issues related with the responsibility of products and services, data treatment, digital platforms, and mechanisms of conflicts resolution.

In this context, professor Barona delivered a conference called “Acceso a la Justicia a través de ODR del consumidor individual en Europa” (Access to the Justice system through ODR of the individual consumer in Europe). She examined the evolution and functioning of the Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) systems as tools aimed at facilitating dispute resolution of consumption in the digital area.

During her intervention, she underlined the role that these mechanisms play in the improvement of the justice access to consumers, especially in disputes of small claims and cross-border conflicts, as well as the challenges that the incorporation of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence create in the procedure of dispute resolution.

The participation of Silvia Barona emphasised the importance of ensuring that digital transformation of justice and the systems of dispute resolution are developed from a respectful perspective with fundamental rights, transparency, and efficient protection of consumers.

This activity strengthens the international dimension of the JUSOST projects and its commitment to study the processes of legal and technological innovation that are redefining access to the justice system in the European and international field.
