Dr. Silvia Barona Vilar, Procedural Law professor at the University of Valencia and main researcher of the Sustainable justice in situation of global change (JUSOST) project, has participated with her own chapter in the collective work titled “Economic criminal law, Legal Tech and Crime Theory”, published in 2025 by the publishing house Tirant Lo Blanc.
The work is directed by professors Eduardo Demetrio Crespo and Ágata María Sanz Hermida and coordinated by professors Mónica de la Cuesta Martín and Faustino García de la Torre García. It compiles contributions from specialists who analyse the profound changes which technology is introducing in Criminal law and crime theory.
The contribution by professor Barona Vilar is titled “Digitalisation and algorithmisation of the justice system for a society in constant movement”, and it inscribes itself in the framework of Project CIPROM 2023-64 (GVA). In this chapter, the author reflects on the impact of the digitalisation processes and the use of algorithms in the administration of the justice system, as well as on the challenges which these occurrences pose for the guardianship of rights, the legitimacy of the legal system and the creation of a sustainable justice system.
This publication reinforces the scientific projection of the JUSOST project, thus consolidating their commitment to a critical analysis of the technological transformation of Law and to studying the different justice models adapted to social and legal challenges in the 21st century.
