Frequently asked questions.
Can I teach a lesson with this videoconferencing system or is it just for meetings?
Indeed it is possible to give a lesson or a lecture through the platform. You can hold a working meeting or use Connect to teach a lesson to the attendees.
Can I hold a virtual meeting in my office with my laptop?
Of course. If your computer meets the minimum requirements you can use your office computer with your webcam and microphone. You are advised to use headphones instead of speakers to avoid issues with the sound.
Can videoconferences be recorded?
Yes. Meetings can be recorded, but it must be the host who starts the recording, as he/she is the one with permission to do so.
Can I participate in a conference from home?
Definitely, although the quality of broadcasting will depend on the connection and bandwidth that you have at home. Also it will work better or worse depending on the number of attendees with their audio and video active.
Should I use a wireless connection or wired only?
It is recommended that you use a wired connection as speed is normally higher. However, all tests run using Wi-Fi have been successful, even using the UV Eduroam service at peak times.
Can I participate in a meeting with my tablet or smartphone?
Of course. You must have previously installed the Connect Mobile software for your operating system. It is freely available for iOS, Android and Blackberry..
Just keep in mind that performance will vary depending on your data plan or the Wi-Fi network that you connect to.
Do these rooms work on iPads or iPhones?
They work perfectly well, but you must have previously installed Connect Mobile, which is free.
What username and password must I use to enter the meeting?
As a host you must always log in with your UV username and password. Participating users who have a UV account may use their UV username and password to log in.
If the participant does not have a UV account he/she must enter as a guest and the host will grant the necessary permissions.
Can rooms be booked for use in the evening or at the weekends?
Indeed reservations of virtual rooms can be made for use outside school hours. In some cases videoconferences have to be held during class hours in other countries to encourage attendance.
How many attendees at most can participate?
There can be a maximum of 99 attendees to a meeting. Take into account that if there are many attendees, performance can be improved by activating the video and audio for speakers only, not for all attendees.
Can we run a test prior to the meeting?
Of course. In fact it is recommended. Many users make two reservations: one for running a test a few days/hours before and one for the meeting itself..
If I have recorded my meeting, how can I play it back? Can everyone play it back?
When you record a meeting, a public URL is generated which is valid during 6 months from then.
Given that the URL is public, the recording will be accessible to anyone who knows the URL. The host has the option of assigning a password to the recording which the visitor must enter before viewing.
What can I do if someone gets an error like this? “Error: FMS Server did not return correctly”
It seems that this error may occur if the port 1935 is blocked by a firewall and has to be opened. It is common in networks with many security restrictions. The user must consult his/her company or connection provider.
Documented by Adobe: Error: FMS Server did not return correctly! This error is sometimes seen on County networks or other networks with strict firewall policies. To resolve this, open up port 1935 for the meeting. Request the Connect server IP address if necessary.
How can I select an audio/video device different from the one displayed by default?
You have to click on the icon at the top of the video pod and choose 'Select camera'. A Flash Player window will pop up and will allow you to choose another camera or microphone by clicking on the corresponding icons at the bottom.
When you select another microphone, you can click on the menu Meeting > Audio Setup Wizard to check the audio of the newly selected microphone..
