The 4th series of Innovación en la gestión del talento” (Innovation in Talent Management) has started the academic year with two talks that have generated significant interest among students, offering complementary perspectives on the first phase of the human resources onboarding process: recruitment and selection.
The first session took place on October 14, and was led by Alba Hornero,a graduate of the Faculty of Economics and founder of CandyCV, with the lecture titled ¨7 segundos y un ATS¨ (7 seconds and an ATS). Alba’s rapport with the students undoubtedly contributed to the success of the talk, but what stood out most was her ability to convey a very realistic view of the industry, thanks to her extensive professional experience in the field of HR software and her recent experience launching her own startup.
During her lecture, Alba explained with clarity what is curriculum screening, debunking numerous myths and “urban legends” that often circulate among job seekers. She also offered practical advices on how to create an effective resume that can get past automated filters and catch the attention of recruiter. The participants followed her presentation with a lot of attention and interest for its technical aspects and her recommendations for the digital world.
Next week, on October 21, the series continued with the lecture led by Javier Gasch, responsible for Recruitment and Selection at the multinational family-owned company Torrecid. Javier resented the company and dedicated a bit part of his lecture to explaining values that guide Torrecid’s corporate culture, placing special emphasis on ethics, a key pillar that, is evident from the very first interaction with the organization and extends to all its departments, including, of course, the Human Resources department.
Gasch explained the difference between recruitment and selection, highlighting the significance of understanding each phase of the process and the alignment with the company's values. He also discussed Torrecid’s internal promotion policy, which fills all management positions with candidates from within the organization, thereby strengthening professional development and talent retention.
Regarding external recruitment, he noted that the company primarily targets recent college graduates and offered recommendations on how to avoid common mistakes when submitting a resume, which can undermine the credibility or professionalism of an application.
With these two lectures, the 4th edition of ¨Innovación en la gestión del talento¨ has successfully finished an overview of the first phase of talent management, offering a practical, up-to-date, and diverse perspective on how hiring processes are approached today, as seen through the eyes of an entrepreneur and a recruitment manager at a large multinational company.
The Chair appreciates the generosity of Alba Hornero and Javier Gasch for sharing their time and experience with students, as well as the students’ interest and active participation, which enable this initiative to continue establishing itself as a meeting point between the academic and professional worlds.
The series will continue during the next few weeks with ne sessions dedicated to different fields in talent management. We encourage you to attend the remaining presentations; you can find their titles and dates on the poster for the 4th Series on ¨Innovación en la gestión del talento¨ (Innovation in Talent Management).
