Between 1 and 18 october takes place the 2020 edition of the Mostra Viva del Mediterrani Festival, in which this year has participated with an exhibition the Chair of Comic Studies SM Foundation-Universitat de València.

The Festival Mostra Viva del Mediterrani 2020 will be held this year under the theme “Emergencia mediterránea. Ciudadanía en resistencia” (Mediterranean Emergency. Citizenship in resistance). Among its many activities in all areas of culture it includes the exhibition “Nuevas realidades del cómic árabe mediterráneo” (New realities of Mediterranean Arab comics), which has been organized by the Chair of Comic Studies SM Foundation-Universitat de València.

The exhibition aims to introduce the visitor to the present of a comic that is deeply rooted in its social reality. In particular, comic creators from the North African Mediterranean countries have been involved through their creations in the whole Arab Spring movement, and show through their cartoons their aspirations and realities, as a sincere testimony of a complex reality. The struggle for freedom, the search for a position of women liberated from sexist yokes or the role of religion in society make up a multifaceted reality of which the comic is giving an insight from movements and magazines that, on many occasions, have to fight with social and political censorship.
