The office of the Vice-Principal of Culture and Sport of the Universitat de València and the Councillorship of Cultural Action of the Valencia City Council have announced the setting up of the Valencian Centre for Study and Preservation of the Comic Heritage, to which the Chair for Comic Studies Foundation SM will greatly contribute.
The office of the Vice-Principal of Culture and Sport of the Universitat de València and the Councillorship of Cultural Action of the Valencia City Council have announced the setting up of the Valencian Centre for Study and Preservation of the Comic Heritage. This centre, will be installed at the building of the Centre Excursionista of Valencia and will be a benchmark institution for the study of the ninth art, pioneer in Spain. The centre will be managed by the Universitat de València through the Comic Society and with the contribution of the Chair for Comic Studies Foundation SM-Universitat de València and its main duty will be preserving the heritage of the comic strip, promoting research and disseminating the work of the comic sector.
The Councillor of Cultural Action, Maite Ibañez, has explained that “it will be a reference point for comic on a local and national level, the first Spanish public centre of this kind”, has emphasized, where “we will use as an archive to preserve the cultural and creative heritage of comic. For research, training and dissemination”. “The Valencian comic is receiving more and more recognition and it is actively present in museum and library programmes. However, we do not have a centre where we can ensure the preservation and study of its immense creative and cultural heritage”.
