The Chair of Territorial Thinking Joan Noguera of the Universitat de València has presented the annual report of the Observatori Territorial of Gandia , a document which summarizes the key indicators and analyses regarding Gandia’s social, economic, and territorial development in 2025.
The report compiles content published in the newsletters of the Observatori throughout the year and provides a comprehensive overview of the key trends shaping the urban landscape of the municipality. The document is intended as a tool to support strategic planning and public decision-making, based on data from official statistical sources and municipal records.
Among the most significant findings, is the progressive aging of the population, as reflected in a dependency ratio that now exceeds 50%. This phenomenon poses a challenge to the local welfare system and highlights the need to strengthen social, health, and long-term care services.
The report also highlights the demographic diversity as a defining feature of the city, with more than 20% of the population born abroad. This reality reinforces the open and multicultural character of Gandia, while emphasizing the importance of promoting the public policies oriented in social cohesion and equal opportunities.
In the economic sector, the study confirms the strength of tourism as force in the local economy, with the record numbers of visitors during 2025 and a progressive extension of the touristic season. This dynamic is also visible in the growth in the housing offer and in the importance of the service sector in local employment.
From the territorial point of view, the report highlights the model of the compact city of Gandia and the importance of its environment, with the system of green spaces and protected natural areas that contribute to the quality of life of the residents and the town´s appeal to tourists.
The document concludes that that Gandia is undergoing a transformation marked by an aging population, social diversity, the impact of tourism and the importance of its regional and environmental framework. In this context, the Observatori Territorial of Gandia, has established itself as a key tool for understanding urban dynamics and guiding evidence-based public policy.
The annual report also includes other initiatives developed by the Chair during 2025, like the study on the economic and social impact of the Fallas of Gadia and the consolidation of the reflection cycle Gandia Pensa, as well as a growing presence in the media.
