On 21 June, Enric Olivares, co-director of the Chair together with Sergi Doménech, will present the Chair’s lines of action. Then, the attendance public will be able to enjoy a dance performance by the ‘Cantares Viejos de Requena’ group.
The exhibition of the company of musicians, singers and dancers, whose objective is to keep alive the popular culture of Requena and its land, is scheduled for Wednesday 21 June at 22:30h. The UV Chair for Traditional Music and Dance -being aware of the fact that music and dance are two essential parts of culture and tradition of our territory- wanted to include this group because of their great job regarding conservation, recuperation and dissemination of ancient songs, melodies, dances and balls of oral tradition, performing in parties, romeries and especial occasions.
The Chair for Traditional Music and Dance, which has started its path this 2023 because of the agreement signed between the Universitat de València and the Council for Education, Culture and Sports of the Generalitat Valenciana, intends to be a study and dissemination tool of the Valencian intangible heritage for the university community and for the society in general.
The Chair presentation and the dance performance will take place in the framework of the Rincón de Ademuz Summer University, an initiative that the Chair of Citizen Participation and Valencian Landscapes of the Universitat de València organises together with the Vice-dean of Culture and Society-UV, with the strong commitment of fostering and supporting the training and territorial culture in Rincón de Ademuz.
Under the title “Agricultural landscapes: identity and local culture”, this meeting combines academic and fun-cultural activities. The programme includes workshops, educational trips, roundtables and lectures, given by experts of the Universitat de València and other entities that will reflect on how Valencian rural territories can transform their scenic, natural, cultural or inherited resources in products for promoting the economic development of the region.
