The Chair members have brought their experience in promoting circular economy for the proper development and implementation of the European CircSyst project.
The European project CircSyst addresses the development of Systemic Circular Solutions (SCS) to face challenges in key value chains such as plastics, packages, biowaste and water. It is an innovative initiative funded by Horizon Europe, bringing together a consortium made by 32 public and private entities from eight European countries: Spain, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Sweden, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary and the United Kingdom. It is committed to driving transition towards a circular economy through the implementation of pilot systems on a large scale designed to be widely replicated across Europe.
The project is focused on three key value chains identified in the Circular Economy Action Plan of the European Commission: Water management, Biowaste and Plastics and Packages and that will be proved through nine pilot projects placed in different European regions. From the point of view of the Principal of the Chair GVA-UV, it is important to highlight the role of the Valencian Community as an example of a possible model of circular business that may be adapted and replicated across Europe. It is also key to adapt strategies for water management, recovery of organic waste and reduction of packaging waste through eco-design and a greater consumer awareness.
By encouraging intersectoral and transactional collaboration, the CircSyst project will significantly contribute to the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI), helping to overcome the existing deficiencies in knowledge, skills and awareness. According to Professor Hernandez, it is a commitment to the creation of a sustainable future through the progress of the principles of circular economy, proving how innovative solutions can transform regional economic systems towards greater sustainability.
