Conference “Performing the museum” by Suzanne Cotter, Director of the Serralves Museum of Oporto (Chair for Artistic Studies. 20th/21th Century) Thursday 27 April

Suzanne Cotter

Suzanne Cotter is the Director of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Oporto since 2013. Before she started working at Serralves, Cotter was Curator of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project, where she was responsible for the development of the Programme for the future museum and had an important role in the constitution of the museum’s collection. Before that, Cotter was Curator and Deputy Director of Modern Art Oxford, Oxford, between 2002 and 2009, where he organised important monographic and collective exhibitions on modern and contemporary art and performances, and she was curator of the exhibitions at Hayward Gallery, London (1999-2002). She has also been curator at Whitechapel Gallery and Serpentine Gallery, London. Curator of the 10th Biennal of Sharjah, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates in 2011, with Rasha Salti, Cotter has edited and contributed to several important art publications and journals, such as Artforum, Frieze and Bidoun. In 2005 she was awarded with the Ordre de Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres for her service to Art.
