On 8 October, Professor Aurora Pedro took part in a conference in Barcelona organised by the Nous Horitzons Foundation, the European Green Foundation and with the financial support of the European Parliament.

On Saturday 8 October, Barcelona hosted a debate on tourism in a context of climate and social crisis with the participation of different experts. Wages in the tourism sector are among the lowest in the working world, which is why this meeting aimed to analyse who ultimately benefits from the tourism industry.

The director of the Chair for a New Green Transition, Aurora Pedro Bueno, gave a speech on how to apply the economy of the common good to the tourism sector. In this context, Professor Pedro emphasised public leadership and the importance of not exclusively following the criteria of consumerism and profit maximisation, and not depending on the lobbies that capture decisions.

The event had other experts on the subject such as José Antonio Donaire Benito (University of Girona), who talked about the need to decarbonise mobility linked to tourism, tourismphobia and social classes. And Deirdre Haughey (Culture Institute of Barcelona) pointed out that, despite the positive impact of the labour reform, the tourism sector continues to be a precarious field in terms of stability and salaries.
