The exhibition shows what the landscape of L’Horta (vegetable field) was like, which is currently occupied by the Universitat de València.

On 12 April, the exhibition “L’Horta de València under the University campuses” was inaugurated at the Faculty of Geography and History, with the presence of Pilar Serra, Vice-principal for Sustainability, Manuel Lomas, Dean of the Faculty, and Professor Enric Guinot, co-director of the L'Horta Chair and curator of the exhibition.
Through 14 panels you can discover what the landscape of the vegetable field that existed for more than a thousand years in the spaces that currently occupy the University campuses was like: Blasco Ibàñez, Tarongers, Burjassot-Paterna, Botanical Garden and the current building of the Master's Degree in Secondary Education (former Teacher Training College in Monteolivete).

Cartell de l'activitat

The exhibition, using old maps from the 19th century, cadastral maps from the beginning of the 20th century, aerial photographs of the city of Valencia between 1946 and 1990, and also some old photos from the Historical Archive of the University, shows what the land was like, the layout of the irrigation channels and arms of the Mestalla irrigation channel, the old roads such as the Cabañal, the location of mills, farmhouses and barracks, etc.

A whole agricultural landscape that was progressively replaced by the buildings of the various campuses and of which, today, practically nothing remains. A reflection on how L’Horta has been treated throughout the ages and also an invitation to collaborate in whatever can still be done to save some part of the vegetable field.
