The team of the Chair of Physical Exercise and Childhood Cancer has stood out in the 2nd National Conference of Research on Physical Exercise and Cancer (Castellón-UJI), contributing both to the organization and the conference's scientific programme.

On 20 November 2025, a scientific session aimed at professionals took place. In this session, Inmaculada Aparicio Aparicio (GIBD, UV) and Julia Balaguer Guill (Cancer Research Group, IISLAFE), researchers from the Chair, moderated the panel discussion Nº1, entitled 'Physical Exercise and Childhood Cancer', in which we had the pleasure of hearing the following presentations:

  • 'Pediatric cancer and physical exercise: from scientific evidence to clinical practice' by Carmen Fiuza Luces, collaborator of the Chair (Health Research Institute of the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, head of the Research Group on Physical Exercise and Pediatric Cancer).
  • 'Physical exercise and bone health in childhood cancer survivors' by Esther Ubago Guisado (Faculty of Sport Sciences, University of Granada).
  • 'Training programme within the chair of Physical Exercise and Childhood Cancer' by Clara Carrión González, trainer in our Chair (GIBD, UV).
  • 'The impact of physical exercise on childhood cancer survivors' by Mª Teresa Tormo Alcañiz, collaborator from the medical team of the Chair (Cancer Research Group, IISLAFE).

On 21 November, the session took a dual approach: scientific for professionals and informative for patients. The Chair of Physical Exercise and Childhood Cancer also shared scientific advances through the poster 'Impact of strength training on functionality during child oncology treatments: a systemic review', presented by José Luis Sánchez Jiménez (GIBD, UV), member of the collaborating research staff of the Chair.

The last day of the conference, held on 22 November, had an athletic perspective, bringing together patients and professionals in an active and coexisting environment. We can enjoy activities such as the 4,000 metres Cross-Running-Walking and the Dragon-Boat Competitions in the Real Club Náutico of Castellón, with an enthusiastic participation that turned the event into a very special shared experience.

Beyond physical exercise, this meeting allowed to exchange real experiences with patients, to know first-hand their perspectives and to build a safe space where people can share doubts, challenges and emotions.  It was a valuable opportunity for listening to honest opinions about their relationship with exercise and about how it is perceived in the different phases of the oncological process.

This second edition of the National Conference of Research on Physical Exercise and Cancer reminded us that physical exercise is more than a therapeutic tool: it is also a social, emotional and community resource that helps to create connections and promotes mutual support and the empowerment of people with cancer. From the Chair of Physical Exercise and Childhood Cancer, we will keep working on integrating individualised physical activity, supervised by professionals, in the treatment of this disease, moving together towards a real improvement of the quality of life.
