The Lluís Vives Institute in Valencia is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the figure of Dememtrio Ribes, an architect and a Valencian engineer and author of the emblematic Estació del Nord (North Station). This exhibition was made for his 150th anniversary of his birth, celebrated in 2025
The exhibition was organised by the Department of Drawings and Plastic Arts of the institution. The participation was featured by professors and students of different subjects related to design, architecture, art and history. Its objective is to bring the educational community closer to the trajectory and the legacy of one of the most remarkable figures of the Valencian architecture.
The development of the project counted on the collaboration of the Demetrio Ribes Chair of the University of Valencia, which contributed with documentation, specialised assessment and the cession of reproductions of stereoscopic photographic plates taken by the architect himself.
Furthermore, the initiative holds a special meaning for the institute, since Demetrio Ribes studied his pre-university studies at the centre. Therefore, the Lluís Vives Institute keeps close ties with the works of the architect due to its proximity to the Estació del Nord, placed a few meters away from the school building and considered one of the main examples of Valencian modernism.
The exhibition can be found settled in the lobby of the Chapel and coincides with the exhibition "El Palmito, artesania valenciana" (El Palmito, Valencian craftwork), organised equally by the same department and dedicated to one of the most representative craft traditions of the Comunitat Valenciana (Valencian Community).
Both exhibitions reaffirm the commitment of the Lluís Vives Institute with dissemination of Valencian cultural heritage and with project-based learning. Thereby, student participation in initiatives that link education with history, art and cultural identity of Valencian society is encouraged.
