‘Pelayo 1868-2018: la emoción de jugar a la pelota’ (‘Pelayo 1868-2018: the excitement of playing pilota’)
For more than 150 years, the calle Pelayo in Valencia has been home to the beating heart of Valencian pilota: the Trinquet de Pelayo. This video is the trailer of the ‘Pelayo 1868-2018: la emoción de jugar a la pelota’ (‘Pelayo 1868-2018: the excitement of playing pilota’), edited by Nau Llibres and the Chair of Valencian Pilota at the Universitat de València.
Inaugurated on 20 August 1868 next to the Estació del Nord (train station), the Trinquet de Pelayo is one of the most ancient sport venues in service in Europe, and the location where the final matches of the most important competitions of Escala i Corda take place. Within its walls, with the Gallery of Honour featuring images of the five myths who have left their mark on the venue, some of the most exciting stories of Valencian pilota have been written.
This book gathers that story: that of a space that, generation after generation, remains being witness of the excitement of playing pilota.
