A team formed by students of Archaeology of the Universitat de València carried out last July an excavation at Pico de los Ajos, located in the municipal area of Yátova.

From 17 to 31 July it took place the first excavation campaign at Pico de los Ajos (Yátova). This archaeological site was an important fortified Iberian settlement that controlled the course of River Magro and the communications between the coast and the interior area.

It was occupied from, at least, 7th century BC, and until the Roman era. The excavations have been focused on the sector 1 of the site, the most occidental platform and one of the most affected by the previous uncontrolled clandestine activity. A series of battery departments, one of which has almost been totally excavated, has been documented here.

Likely, intact levels belonging to the most ancient occupation phases have also been discovered.

The study of the numerous found materials and structures, to be performed during the coming months, will allow taking a step forward in the knowledge of Iberian settlements in the central Valencian regions.
