Conference on Genomic and Systems Reproductive Medicine: Data Conducting Hypotheses

  • April 20th, 2018
Conferencia: Medicina Reproductiva Genómica y de Sistemas: los Datos Dirigiendo las Hipótesis

Day: April 26, 2018

Classroom: 2.3

Time: 4pm

Dr. Diaz-Gimeno is part of the IVI Research Foundation of the IVI-RMA Global Group whose mission is research in human reproduction. The research he leads combines the experimental part (wet lab) with the bioinformatic analysis (dry lab), being specialized in the use of in silico approaches as a source of potential hypothesis generation (bottom up / top down strategy). Her research has two main objectives: generate new taxonomies for complex and multifactorial processes and reproductive problems and investigate the molecular basis of subfertilities from a systemic perspective to discover functional causes and potential therapeutic targets for personalized and precision reproductive medicine.

For this purpose, the main methodologies in which the group is specialized are the use of transcriptomic predictors (machine learning), in functional genomics analysis methods, especially in systemic analysis through the use of Network Medicine approaches.

The conference will illustrate some examples of these approaches applied to research in reproductive medicine and its subsequent translation into clinical practice.

Biography: Patricia Diaz-Gimeno, Ph.D.

Patricia Diaz-Gimeno is a leading researcher in the Genomic and Systems Reproductive Medicine group at Fundación FIVI-INCLIVA. Degree in Biological Sciences (2006) with the qualification of extraordinary prize (2007) and Doctorate in Biomedicine "cum laude" by the Department of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Valencia (2011). Dr. Diaz-Gimeno did her PhD researching the transcriptomic signature of endometrial receptivity as a biomarker and its applicability to evaluate the window of human implantation in clinical practice. In his postdoctoral stage he specialized in the massive analysis of data and high-performance technologies (microarrays and NGS) and their associated genomic-functional analyzes at the Prince Felipe Research Center (CIPF) in the Department of Genomics and Bioinformatics (2011 -2013). Since 2013, Dr. Diaz-Gimeno has developed the bioinformatics laboratory at Fundación IVI and has worked in recent years on the translation of endometrial transcriptomics as a diagnostic method in endometrial evaluation.
