The UV ended the European Games as the 4th best University of the competition

The UV finished its participation in the European University Games, celebrated in the cities of Zagreb and Rijeka (Croatia), as the best Spanish university in the European ranking, and the fourth university with best results of all the Games, after the locals, Zagreb, Split and Rijeka.

A total of 16 medals support the good moment of the UV teams, that with 12 golds, 3 silvers and a bronze, made that the UV was in the European podium.

The first medals arrived with the team of karate, with a bronze and three fifth places. The first podium was for the seven-a-side women’s football, that arrived to the final and got a silver medal. Marta Ortiz and Iokin Sagarzazu also got a silver in the competition of judo. The 12 gold medals were the result of a magnificent performance of the swimmers of the team of adapted swimming, that won all the competitions and were in the highest place of the podium. It also has to be highlighted the performance of the women’s rugby team, even if they didn’t get any medal, they got the 4th position. Their colleagues of the men’s team finished in the 7th position, the volleyball team in the 9th and the taekwondists of the UV that got three 5th positions.

Adapted swimming collocates the UV between the bests of Europe

The adapted swimming team of the UV got 12 gold medals in the first time of the adapted modality of swimming in the European University Games. 12 medals that, together with the ones of their colleagues of other modalities, classified the UV between the bests of Europe.

In the first day, Alba Villa, Laura Mengó and Leyre Ortí represented the UV at the top of the podium. Alba Villa (S5 and SB4) obtained two golds, one in the test of 100 metres freestyle, and other one in 100 meters breaststroke. Laura Mengó (S9) and Leyre Ortí (S8) did the same in the tests of 100 m freestyle and 50 m backstroke. In addition, we have to add to these results the good classifications of Irene Jiménez and Sara Vázquez, that finished in 8th position in 100 m  freestyle and in 6th position in 100 m breaststroke.

In the second day of competition, they maintained their level and in the 50 m freestyle they got the gold medal in the categories S5, S9 y S8, thanks to all the good performances of Alba Villa, Laura Mengí and Leyre Ortí, respectively. The two last ones, in addition, they reached the podium in 50 m butterfly, in S9 and S8, two categories in which they got a gold medal. Alba Villa, also get the gold in 50 meters breaststroke SB4. The team headed by Miguel Ángel Torregrosa, competed against athletes with disabilities of other universities, as Great Britain, Turkey or Croatia.

The team is getting lots of titles this academic year, with all these medals, the team ends a season in which has proclaims autonomic champion and runner-up of Spain.
